Liners are usually made of flat material, paper, rubber, silicone, metal, cork, felt, neoprene, nitrile rubber, fiberglass, polytetrafluoroethylene (also known as PTFE or Teflon) or plastic polymers ( such as polychlorotrifluoroethylene).

In industrial applications of compressed fiber gasket materials, one of the more desirable properties of the gasket is the ability to withstand high compressive loads. Most industrial gasketing applications include bolt compression in the pressure range of 14MPa (2000 psi) or higher. In general, there are several truths that provide better gasket performance. One of the tested tests: the more compressive load you put on the gasket, the longer it lasts.

There are several methods of measuring the ability of a gasket material to withstand compressive loads. The "Hot Compression Test" is probably the most popular of these tests. Most cushion material manufacturers will provide or publish the results of these tests.
